TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Uber already operates in Florida. But the ridesharing company is looking for a lift from lawmakers to make sure they keep operating.
Several state legislators have shown support for Uber, hence this tweet from State Representative Dana Young (R - Tampa).
However, proposed laws to help Uber didn't pass before a healthcare feud between lawmakers ended the legislative session early.
Uber executives and drivers hope state leaders will take up the issue in a few weeks during a special session. They're also asking for the public's help to sign a petition.
"What Uber does is it adds a sense of accountability to provide a good service. At the end of each ride a passenger has the ability to rate my service and in return I can rate them as a customer or a passenger," said Isidro Cunningham, an Uber driver in Tallahassee.
Lawmakers have tentatively agreed to meet for special session from June 1 to the 20.
No word on if they'll take a look at legislation for Uber.
