HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Former President Donald Trump met with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for "several hours" on Sunday at a golf club in South Florida, according to reporting from CBS News.

The meeting between the two former rivals was first reported by the Washington Post based on information from several people who knew about the matter but spoke on the condition of anonymity.

A senior Trump source told CBS News that DeSantis requested the meeting, which reportedly happened over breakfast at the Shell Bay Club in Hollywood, Florida. Real estate investor and longtime Trump donor Steve Witkoff arranged the meeting.

One of the main topics of the conversation was fundraising, according to what sources told the Post and CBS News.

The two were friendly during the meeting, a person with direct knowledge told the Post. Sources also told the publication that Trump's advisers were hoping DeSantis would use some of his fundraising power within Florida's Republican Party to assist the former President in the general election.

According to one of the Post's sources, DeSantis agreed to help Trump.

The meeting comes as Trump faces nearly half a billion dollars in legal debts relating to his civil fraud case in New York, along with his sexual abuse and defamation case brought by E. Jean Carroll.

President Joe Biden also recently announced that his campaign started the month of April with an advantage of about $100 million over the Trump campaign. In March, Biden said he raised over $90 million, compared to the Trump campaign's announcement that it raised $66 million in the same month.

CBS News also reportedly spoke with someone who attended a private call between DeSantis and other campaign reporters. That person told the publication that DeSantis voiced concerns that Trump and the Republican party could be "outspent 3-to-1 this year."

The source added that when asked about a presidential run in 2028, DeSantis said he hasn't ruled anything out, but couldn't say one way or another at that point in time.
