WASHINGTON — Rapper Snoop Dogg announced on Thursday in a rather solemn social media post that he's "giving up smoke."

"After much consideration & conversation with my family, I've decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time," Snoop Dogg shared on social media alongside a photo of himself

It's not entirely clear what kind of smoke he's quitting. The reaction on the posts seem to be mixed between those who genuinely believe the 52-year-old's announcement and others who aren't quite sure. Some suggested it could be a setup for launching a new line of edibles or some other cannabis products.

Grammy-winning rapper Queen Latifah is taking Snoop Dogg at his word, commenting on the Instagram post: "We Love You!"

Given Snoop Dogg's image is so closely tied to smoking marijuana, it's not surprising that fans are speculating whether or not he's being serious.

But this isn't the first time that Snoop Dogg has announced he's quitting smoking. Back in 2002, he quit smoking and drinking for a time and said it was because he wanted to be a more responsible father, according to Entertainment Weekly

Earlier this year, he suggested to the Daily Mail that he re-evaluated his lifestyle and moderated his weed consumption after becoming a grandfather "because I want to see my grandkids grow old."

So far, none of Snoop Dogg's representatives have responded to requests for comment from multiple media outlets. Fans may just have to wait to see if he's really done with smoking marijuana for good.
