JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Vice President Mike Pence visited Jacksonville Saturday to discuss the American Health Care Act.
Pence was joined by Gov. Rick Scott, Congressman John Rutherford and Mayor Lenny Curry. Pence spoke at Mac Papers Envelope Converters at 8370 Philips Hwy.
Pence spoke to small businesses and job creators at 2:15 p.m. where he discussed President Donald Trump's economic agenda, the repeal and replacement of Obamacare and the American Health Care Act.
Pence spoke about what Trump is setting out to accomplish: ending illegal immigration, creating jobs and the wall, but the main reason for his trip to Jacksonville Saturday was to promote the American Health Care Act, which Pence said will add the ability to purchase healthcare across state lines and a work requirement for able bodied adults.
"Everyday Obamacare survives is another day the American people and American businesses are struggling. Obamacare has failed and Obamacare must go," said Pence.
Pence promised that the transition from Obamacare will be smooth. He said that he's preparing for a battle in the legislature.
Supporters will be met by protesters, as well. At 1:45 p.m., UNF College Dems partnered with Jacksonville Young Democrats to host a protest against Pence and Scott outside the building.
"Join us as we voice our opinions in favor of the ACA and affordable healthcare for all," their Facebook event said.
Pence made a stop in Jacksonville last September during the 2016 presidential campaign.
