CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A man has received critical injuries from a Thursday afternoon crash that led to him getting extracted from his van in a retention pond, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The report said the van driven by a 57-year-old Starke man was traveling southbound on State Road 21 near County Road 218 in the center lane and sideswiped an SUV when attempting to switch lanes. The van collided with a light pole on the west shoulder and entered a retention pond.
