Putnam County volunteer firefighter identified victim shot during custody exchange on Christmas Day

Anna Halsup-Terrill was shot on Christmas Day at a Walgreens in Gainesville.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The family of a Putnam County woman say they are mourning her death.

31-year-old Anna Haslup-Terrill was shot and killed on Christmas Day in Gainesville.

Thirty-eight-year-old Amanda Janzen is charged with the attempted murder of her child's father Thomas Williams, the murder of Halsup-Terrill, and child neglect.

Janzen admitted to dispatchers she was responsible for the crime.

Five days before the shooting, Janzen and the father of her 11-month-old were ordered joint custody.

On Christmas Day, the police report says Janzen drove to the Walgreens on Northwest 13th Street in Gainesville with her five children in the car for a custody exchange.

The report says Janzen waited for the victims to arrive, then walked up to the car, shooting and killing Haslup-Terrill and injuring Williams.

"I heard 'pow pow' so I know there was somebody shooting, and then I heard some screaming. I literally watched her die," a bystander said.

Anna's sister Sara Harryman says Williams was shot at least three times and survived.

Janzen sped away and led police on a 13-mile-high speed chase with her children in the car. She admitted to dispatchers she shot the victims and police were following her. The murder was captured on surveillance video.

"Anna was an extraordinary, amazing person to not just her community but anyone who was in need of anything," Terrill's sister Sarah Harryman said.

Terrill's family says she worked as a substitute teacher in Putnam and Alachua Counties and as a volunteer firefighter in Putnam. They say Janzen used to be a longtime friend of Terrill.

Putnam County Fire Rescue announced Friday it cancelled the Boot Drive Fundraiser for Terrill's funeral expenses. Her family says they are not sure why it was cancelled. First Coast News reached out but did not get a response Friday.
