GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — A man is dead after an apparent drowning off St. Simons Island on Sunday afternoon, according to Glynn County Fire Rescue.
A lifeguard responded to calls of a man in distress while swimming at Massengale Park's beach access.
The lifeguard removed the man from the water and found that he was unconscious, fire rescue said.
The man was assessed and lifeguards began CPR protocols.
Paramedics with fire rescue arrived on the scene and began advanced life support protocols before taking the man to the Southeast Georgia Health System-Brunswick Campus emergency room.
According to fire rescue, the man died as a result of the incident.
