Judge hopes to set trial date soon for 'House of Horrors' case

Russell Tillis, the man whose Southside home was dubbed the "House of Horrors" by neighbors, is charged with the first-degree murder of Joni Lynn Gunter.

The judge overseeing the murder case of Joni Lynn Gunter hopes to set a trial date for her accused killer next Friday.

Russell Tillis, the man whose Southside home was dubbed the "House of Horrors" by neighbors, is charged with the first-degree murder of Gunter. Her body was found buried behind Tillis' home in 2016.

Tillis was back in court on Thursday. He has filed multiple complaints against attorneys in his case. He has cycled through 13 attorneys since his 2015 arrest and represented himself twice.

In court Thursday, the judge asked him if he could consolidate the complaints into a single motion. Tillis replied, "absolutely not."

The judge set a hearing on those motions for next Friday, July 19. He said he hopes by then, a trial date will be set.
