Jacksonville's Animal Care & Protective Services 'urgently' needs foster homes for 60 dogs

Fosters will be needed for the next six weeks as the shelter works to improve its air conditioning system.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville's Animal Care and Protective Services is in urgent need of foster homes for 60 dogs by Wednesday, as the shelter works to improve its air conditioning system.

Fosters would be needed for the next six weeks.

A City of Jacksonville release states that while maintenance is done, a minimum of 60 dogs must be cared for outside of the shelter for safety purposes.

While air condition upgrades are coming in time for summer temperatures, the shelter is still in dire need of help.

"We need the support of the community in a way that we never have before," said ACPS Chief Michael Bricker.

Community members who want to help can join the "ACPS Space Force" crew to help find foster homes for the 60 pups in need.

The city said dogs eligible to be fostered through the "ACPS Space Force" can go to homes as soon as fosters arrive to pick them up. The shelter will also provide supplies and support to those who foster.

ACPS is located at 2020 Forest St. and is open from Monday to Friday, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
