JSO: Motorcyclist killed after crash on Southside Service Road in Baymeadows

This incident marks the 59th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, and the 8th involving a motorcyclist.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead after a crash on the Southside Service Road Saturday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Around 12:37 p.m., a large Dodge SUV and Nissan SUV were traveling south on the Southside Service Road. At the same time, a motorcycle was northbound on the service road.

The Dodge SUV made a left turn in front of the motorcycle as it got onto the on-ramp for Southside Boulevard.

The motorcycle hit the passenger side of the SUV, forcing the motorcyclist into the oncoming southbound lane where the Nissan was traveling.

The motorcycle struck the Nissan and the man riding the motorcycle was thrown off, according to police.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue pronounced the man dead at the scene. Police said the victim was in his mid-30s.

A witness told police the motorcycle was traveling at a "high rate of speed."

Both the driver of the Dodge and Nissan remained at the scene and are cooperating with police.

Neither driver showed signs of impairment, according to police.
