Clay County Sheriff's Office says inmate died in agency custody

The inmate's identity was not released.

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — An inmate died at Clay County Jail after 4 a.m. Thursday, the agency said.

The inmate's identity was not released.

The inmate experienced an "apparent medical emergency," the agency said. Deputies, Clay County Fire Rescue and medical staff attempted to revive the person.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting a review of this case, and the Medical Examiner’s Office has also accepted jurisdiction.

"The family has been notified, and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office expresses our condolences to them at this difficult time," the agency said in a release.
