Atlantic Beach retirement community kept safe by FEMA

Over 70 residents from Fleet Landing arrived at their hotels ahead of Hurricane Dorian and were given the royal treatment by FEMA task forces.

An Atlantic Beach retirement community was given the royal treatment by FEMA when they were evacuated to hotels around Jacksonville to keep safe during Hurricane Dorian.

Over 70 residents from Fleet Landing arrived at their hotels on Monday, where 80 FEMA New Jersey Task Force 1 members were on stand-by to escort them to their rooms and carry their luggage, according to a Fleet Landing spokesperson.

The task force members shared stories and words of comfort with the residents before the task force was moved on Tuesday to South Carolina.

But the Fleet Landing residents weren't alone for long, because as soon as the New Jersey team left, the Pennsylvania Search hand Rescue team arrived -- this time with trained Rescue K-9s.

The Pennsylvania team picked up where the New Jersey team left off, sharing stories and assisting the residents in any way they could.

"Needless to say, both FEMA teams will be fondly remembered by Residents and staff alike," said the spokesperson. "The Fleet Landing Community thanks New Jersey Task Force 1 and Pennsylvania Search and Rescue for jumping into action and making the residents feel safe."
