Jury to continue deliberating Saturday in former Kingsland police officer's manslaughter trial

Tony Green's father, Wayne Anderson, says the trial has been "an emotional drain."

After another long day of deliberations on Friday, the jury has not come to a verdict. They will reconvene on Saturday to decide the fate of the former Kingsland police officer Zechariah Presley.

Presley is facing both voluntary and involuntary manslaughter charges in the shooting death of Tony Green last year after Green fled following a traffic stop.

Earlier in the day, the judge told the courtroom that there was a hung jury and requested the jurors continue deliberating. Later in the afternoon, the jury, made of six women and eight men, requested to rewatch the 12-minute bodycam footage again, showing the pursuit and the shooting. Once again, the judge requested the jurors keep deliberating.

"The emotional drain is what’s getting to me," said Wayne Anderson, Green's father. "The jury deliberating as long as they’re deliberating. It’s the ups and the downs. You get up and then you come back down you get up and then you come back down and I’m talking about emotionally."

During his testimony on Wednesday, Presley said he fired his weapon at Green as he fled on June 20, 2018. He said he feared for his life and thought Green was going to kill him.

Green's family says they are trying to stay strong as each hour of deliberations passes.

"And I’m praying for them," Anderson said. "Hopefully, they’re praying for me and I’m just going to continue to walk in love. One thing I’ve always said is I refuse to let a situation dictate my attitude."

Presley could face up to 20 years in jail if he is convicted.

The jury is returning to deliberate on Saturday at 9 a.m.
