Florida Fearlessness: Jacksonville man reflects on catching alligator with bare hands in viral video

Florida man Mike Dragich stepped up to the challenge when he confronted an unexpected visitor – a six-foot alligator roaming a Jacksonville street.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

It has *millions* of views on social media -- and it originated right here in Jacksonville. A video shows a Jacksonville man catching an alligator with his bare hands.

It was like a scene straight out of a wild adventure movie, but this was no Hollywood set.

Florida man Mike Dragich stepped up to the challenge when he confronted an unexpected visitor – a six-foot alligator roaming the city streets.

With nerves of steel and adrenaline pumping, Dragich sprang into action, disregarding any notion of danger. He got the call during Sunday's Icemen playoff game, so he left, caught the gator -- then went back to the game with his family.

"I get the call to respond to an emergency alligator situation, JSO [Jacksonville Sheriff's Office] was on standby," Dragich told First Coast News. "I show up, I caught the alligator, and I actually went right back to the hockey game."

News of the daring feat quickly spread across social media, earning 'Florida Man' praise for his bravery and sheer audacity.

But, Dragich does all of this for a special cause.

The Marine said he does this for veterans -- with his non-profit called Project Savior Outdoors working to fight PTSD and veteran suicide by connecting with the outdoors.
