FDC: Ruben Ebron transferred to medical center from Duval County Jail

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Ruben Ebron was transferred from the Duval County Jail to state prison Thursday after being sentenced to 20 years for the death of toddler Lonzie Barton.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Ruben Ebron was transferred from the Duval County Jail to state prison Thursday after being sentenced to 20 years for the death of toddler Lonzie Barton.

According to jail records, Ebron was released to the Florida Department of Corrections at 6:26 a.m. after being admitted to the Duval County Jail on July 24. He has now been taken to the Reception and Medical Center in Lake Butler for processing, according to FDC.

Ebron, 32, pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated manslaughter as well as charges of child neglect, lying to police and tampering with evidence. He was sentenced to 20 years in state prison.

In August 2015, Ebron was arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of a concealed handcuff key and smuggling contraband into a detention facility, jail records show. Those charges have been dropped, according to court documents obtained by First Coast News.

According to the state Department of Corrections, inmates are taken to a processing center before being assigned to where they will be housed. The processing could take several weeks, a spokesperson with the Department of Corrections told First Coast News.
