Across the state of Florida, Verizon Wireless customers couldn't make make phone calls for two and a half hours, the telecommunications company said.

Thousands of customers reported that they couldn't make calls and some said their data wasn't working, according to outage tracking website Down Detector.

A Verizon spokesperson said in an email that the outage was repaired by engineers at 7:40 p.m.

Below is the full statement:

Verizon Wireless experienced an interruption in voice service for some customers throughout Florida today. The outage lasted approximately 2.5 hours. Engineers were able to identify and resolve the issue promptly and service was restored by 7:40 p.m. EST.

That would mean the outage began around 5:10 p.m. Down Detector is still reporting an outage as of 8:40 p.m., but because it's not official, there is no direct way of knowing. Unless you're a Verizon customer in Florida of course - since you could just try and make a call.

Jacksonville, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Miami - even Tallahassee and Fort Myers were on the list of affected major cities.
