13-year veteran of Fernandina Beach Fire Department dies off-duty after medical emergency

The Nassau County community is mourning Lt. James Tucker, who died Friday, FBFD said.

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — A 13-year veteran of the Fernandina Beach Fire Department has died Friday, the agency confirmed on social media.

Lt. James  Tucker died unexpectedly Friday evening after a medical emergency while off-duty at home.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our dearest friends and our brother, Lieutenant James Tucker, the agency said. "A 13-year veteran of the Fernandina Beach Fire Department, his dedication, bravery, and service to our community will never be forgotten."

Tucker was promoted to engineer in 2018. He was promoted to lieutenant in October. In 2022, Tucker received a EMS Save commendation for his part in delivering a crash victim with serious injuries to an airlift in 12 minutes.
