'Ask Anthony' team grants Jacksonville woman's special birthday wish

A Jacksonville woman's family asked Anthony Austin for help with an unusual birthday wish. She wanted to see how the field was painted before a Jaguars game.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville woman's family had an unusual request for the Ask Anthony team.

"For some reason, my crazy sister is just always fascinated with how they paint the field before a football game," Brenda Colbert said.

When Brenda Colbert asked First Coast News Anchor Anthony Austin for help to give her sister a birthday present she wouldn't forget, he thought maybe she wanted free tickets to the Jacksonville Jaguars game.

"She's just always been fascinated by the process and thinks she would really like to go see it, " Colbert explained.

But, that wasn't the case at all. Her sister, Karen, just wanted to see how they prepare and paint the field at Everbank Stadium before a football game.

"She mentioned to her daughter that she would like to see this happen and she never says anything like that. She's always just helping everybody else out and doing what she can for other people and she never wants anything selfishly. So, I suggested you guys," Colbert added.

The Ask Anthony team aired an interview with Colbert on First Coast News at 6 p.m. in November and mentioned this uncommon request. Within minutes, Anthony received emails from leaders with the Jaguars organization and Everbank Stadium who were watching the news that night and wanted to make it happen.

After several cancellations due to weather, Anthony took the entire family on a field trip to Everbank the day before the Jaguars played the Carolina Panthers and saw how they painted the lines on the field and created the logos and words you see from inside the stadium or on television. It takes time and talent from many expert field artists.

"Oh, today was awesome! This is the most wonderful thing I've ever done. Thank you so much," Karen Carter exclaimed.

The Ask Anthony team wants to thank ASM Capital Projects Manager Michael Neal for making this happen and taking us on a tour. Also, thank you to Nick Fedewa, Field Manager at Everbank Stadium, for showing us how it is all done.
