Sad news for fans of India's Restaurant in Baymeadows. The owners of the restaurant announced that, after more than two decades in business, it will be closing its doors for good this weekend.
The announcement was made through a sign that was taped on its window, according to a Reddit post made Monday by user towerofshiba.
"It is with a heavy heart we inform you that India's Restaurant will be closing on July 28th," the sign read. "We have been in business for 22 years ... but now it's time to say goodbye."
The restaurant, located at 9802 Baymeadows Rd. No. 8, opened its doors in July of 1997. It's best known for serving traditional Indian cuisine for lunch and dinner, with some of its popular dishes being tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, shrimp curry and samosa.
It had an overall 4.3 out of 5-star rating on Google and a 4 out of 5-star rating on Yelp.
Reddit users expressed their genuine sadness that the restaurant will be closing on July 28.
"One of the best restaurants in Jacksonville, been going since they opened. Huge loss," said user CartesianDoubt.
"Oh noooo that place is amazing 😭," said user, jmapc.
"I am very sad to see this. Shoot... this was a staple of ours," said another user, ilikesurf.
One user, zetagundamzz, said the reason why the owners were closing was because they are retiring.
"The owners are retiring and no one else in the family wants to take it over," said another Reddit user, zetagundamzz.
First Coast Foodies reached out to the restaurant for comment about the closure. An employee at the restaurant took our information and said he would pass it along. We are waiting to hear back.
