Man involved in 'possible' kidnapping over the weekend in St. Johns County located

A man, identified as Jonathon Babcock, previously fled on foot near 6720 State Road 16 following a vehicle pursuit with deputies on Sunday. He was captured Tuesday.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE: The man wanted by St. Johns County Sheriff's Office regarding a "possible kidnapping" over the weekend has been located by deputies, the agency announced on social media Tuesday.

The wanted man, identified as Johnathon Babcock, faces charges of false imprisonment, eluding law enforcement and reckless driving.

On Sunday, a victim involved in a "possible kidnapping" was recovered safely. However, law enforcement was still searching for Babcock, who was last seen near State Road 16 after a vehicle pursuit with deputies.

Deputies said on Sunday that the incident was believed to be isolated.

SJSO said the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force assisted in taking Babcock into custody Tuesday afternoon.

"Thank you to our community for staying in contact, reviewing your video surveillance systems, and providing information. Out of respect for the privacy of the victim, we will not be sharing additional information at this time," SJSO said on Facebook.
