The Nassau County Sheriff's Office arrested Dean of Students at Southside Middle School. Michael Schletter, 36, for driving while under the influence, exposing sexual organs and resisting arrest without violence.
Schletter was found passed out in his car at 85041 Christian Way at 2:30 a.m. with the lights on when a Nassau County Sheriff's Office Deputy found him. The deputy writes in his report that he tried to wake Schletter several times by knocking loudly on the window, but Schletter would not rouse.
He also had his genitals exposed and the crotch area of his pants appeared to be wet.
The officer finally woke Schletter by opening the driver's side door. Schletter appeared to be very intoxicated. The deputy notes that Schletter was slurring his speech, smelled heavily as alcohol, and had bloodshot and glassy eyes.
Schletter had to be told several times why the deputy was asking him to exit his vehicle and why he was being brought into custody. He refused several times to get into the police car, which is why he was also charged with resisting arrest without violence.
Duval County Public Schools is aware of the incident, as Schletter self-reported the arrest.
But parents are concerned.
“Why have parents not been notified? We have yet to hear from the school board or anything. I get calls if they lose power for an accident on University but nobody has told the parents that the dean has been arrested, I figured it out on my own” said a parent whose daughter is in the 6th grade.
“He was like always my favorite dean and everything and he’s a good person so it’s kind of hard to believe, but yeah it was just pretty shocking,” said Brianna Beatty, a student at Southside middle school.
