Putnam County jail director placed on administrative leave due to investigation

Putnam County Sheriff Gator DeLoach was not able to specify the subject of the investigation. He says he is also ordering an audit of the jail

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — The Putnam County jail director has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation and an audit of the jail, according to Putnam County Sheriff Gator DeLoach.

DeLoach did not specify what the subject of the investigation is, and said it is confidential for the time being.

The director, Major Scott Surrency, will be temporarily replaced by Captain Clayton Silva, who will serve as director of corrections in the interim.

"I want everyone to understand that Major Surrency carries a presumption of innocence with him during this inquiry," DeLoach said. "I have many unanswered questions, but I ask for everyone's understanding as I patiently await the results of the audit."
