The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the altercation was over a woman, as "everyone involved in the incident" has been detained and will be interviewed.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was shot during a "physical altercation" over a woman on Jacksonville's Westside Friday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO's Sergeant Richardson says at approximately 11 a.m., officers responded to the 14000 block of Bell Estates Road in reference to a call about the man who was shot. When officers arrived, Richardson says they found the unidentified man in his mid-50s injured, as first responders with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took the man to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

JSO's preliminary investigation reveals that the man was involved in the altercation with an unidentified man in his late-30s who lives nearby. Police say the altercation happened at the suspect's house.

"During that altercation, there was a tussle over a firearm," Richardson said. "During that tussle, the firearm went off, striking the victim in the abdomen one time."

Richardson told First Coast News that everyone involved in the incident, has been detained and will be interviewed by detectives. He says detectives were also on scene, speaking with witnesses and canvassing the area for possible surveillance video.
