Report gives new details into fatal triple shooting at home in Lawtey

Three women were found shot to death inside of a home in Lawtey Tuesday morning - Quinqune 'Kat' Robinson, 49, Danesha Sims, 27, and Winshay Roddey, 25.

LAWTEY, Fla. — A new report obtained by First Coast News gives chilling details into the fatal triple shooting that happened inside of a Bradford County home Tuesday morning.

At approximately 3:15 a.m., the Bradford County Sheriff's Office says several units responded to the home located at 21637 Northeast 17th Ave. in Lawtey in reference to a disturbance. The sheriff's office says an 11-year-old girl called 911 multiple times to report a domestic incident.

When police units arrived at the home, three women were found shot to death inside a bedroom- Quinqune 'Kat' Robinson, 49, Danesha Sims, 27, and Winshay Roddey, 25. The 11-year-old girl is the granddaughter of Robinson, according to Bradford County Sheriff's Colonel Brad Smith; Sims and Roddey were her aunts.

Police say a man who was found in the front yard of the home with a laceration to his upper left arm, told them that he was the homeowner as he then began receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the incident. The man is identified as Johnnie Bernard Brown, 46, his arrest report states.

Brown's arrest report does not list his address as the home where the shooting took place. The address of the home is listed as Sims and Roddey's.

When asked about the incident, the report states that Brown told police he and Robinson were in an argument which then "escalated into a physical altercation." The report further details him telling police that Roddey and Sims joined the altercation and came at him with knives. Brown then said he retrieved a gun, began firing toward the women, "went mad" and continued to fire shots at them while they were running away.

When Brown was asked by police how his arm was injured, the report states he said, "they" had knives and were trying to cut him.

The report indicates that Sims was found with one knife in her right hand with her arms crossed across her chest in a defensive position. A second knife was found on the floor at the feet of Robinson. And a third knife was found on the floor near the doorway of the bedroom.

46-year-old Johnnie Bernard Brown was booked into the Alachua County Jail following the Lawtey triple shooting Tuesday morning.

"He [Brown] was not being very truthful in what he was saying what's going on," Smith said. "He was saying that they were having an argument and that one of the females started attacking him with a knife and that's when he shot them. But then, further investigation and conversation with him... the story had changed quite a bit to where he had actually pursued them into the room that they were found dead in."

A bullet hole was observed on the wall in the hallway next to the bedroom, the sheriff's office says, as the report states "this angle suggests that the shot was fired from outside the bedroom into the bedroom."

"The door knob was also in a locked position and the door appeared to be closed due to manual breach marks on the door indicative of the door being locked and closed," the report states.

Police say Sims was found in a position that was indicative of her hiding, seated on the floor with a chair pulled in front of her.

Smith told First Coast News Brown and the girl were taken to a hospital in Gainesville for injuries after the shooting occurred, and have since been released. The report states a small mark was observed on the girl's shoulder, a slight hole was in her shirt and several metallic fragments were taken out of her shoulder.

Smith also revealed that Brown was in a relationship with Robinson, but adds they were not married.

"Waking up this morning and hearing that phone call, it was like... unbelievable like... it broke my heart," said cousin in-law Kisha Cruger. "This is very sad, it's really sad, I know Kat and her daughters. They were really sweet, real sweet people, very sweet, they'd give you the clothes off their back."

"They look so much like their momma," cousin Yolanda Jones added. "I call them little Kat. I be like, 'Hey, little Kat,' you know. That's I would call them."

After Brown was cleared medically, he was taken into custody at the Alachua County Jail as he is charged with four counts of murder, including one that is listed as attempted, his arrest report states.

Brown's first court appearance will be at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in Alachua County. He is being held in Alachua County for safety precautions and will be transported back to Bradford County after his initial court appearance, according to police.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing at this time, a Facebook post from Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith states, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Medical Examiner were on the scene after the shooting happened to assist.
