Police: Man dead after being shot 'multiple times' on Jacksonville's Northside, person detained

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the man was between 40 and 45 years old.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has identified the man who was shot and killed as Byron W. Walker, 41.

A man died at UF Health Hospital in Jacksonville Thursday night after he was shot "multiple times" on Jacksonville's Northside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO's Sergeant Rudlaff says patrol officers responded to the shooting at 9:45 p.m. in the 10500 block of Maidstone Cove Drive, and that the man was between 40 and 45 years old.

"We have one person detained and they have been transported to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed," Rudlaff said. "At this time, we don't know the circumstances of the incident or the relationships of those involved. Because of this, the classification of the incident is pending."

An investigation into the shooting is being worked by detectives with JSO's Homicide and Crime Scene units, according to Rudlaff, and it is active.

"We will continue to investigate and coordinate our efforts with our partners at the Medical Examiner’s Office and State Attorney’s Office.," Rudlaff told First Coast News.

JSO says the incident is believed to be isolated, as there is "no additional threat to the community."
