A Jacksonville man, who police say may be involved in several other crimes, was arrested in connection with a 2017 double fatal shooting in the Moncrief area, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced on Thursday.
Donjuan Powell Jr., 26, faces two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the Oct. 28, 2017 shooting, according to police records.
Police said on that day, around 6:20 p.m., they found two men -- identified as Dorian Brown Sr. and Darnell Dues -- with multiple gunshot wounds at the intersection of West 28th and Stuart Streets.
According to a previous story by First Coast News, there was an altercation between at least two individuals that took place at a convenience store located at the intersection. Brown was a bystander at the store when the shooting occurred. JSO said at least 40 rounds were fired and Brown and Dues were struck by the gunfire.
Both Brown and Dues were transported to a local hospital where they died from their injuries. During the news conference, police said Brown was 28 and Dues was 20 at the time of their deaths.
Powell was arrested in connection to their deaths and is being held at the Duval County Jail without bond, according to JSO's inmate search. Police said Powell may be connected to other crimes, but they didn't reveal any details.
Powell was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in relation to this incident, according to police records.
JSO said there also may be other suspects involved. JSO is choosing not to release any further details regarding this incident as it is an active investigation.
