JSO: Man dead in San Marco shooting after altercation early Sunday morning

Several people have been detained as the investigation is ongoing, police said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Update: The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Luis Roces, 36 in connection with the deadly shooting.

Police said a shooting left a man dead in San Marco Sunday morning.

At about 1:30am, officers responded to a shooting in the 1800 block of River Road, near a playground and the San Marco Square. Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said there was an altercation at a residence between several people, and at some point, a person produced a firearm and shot the victim. Several people have been detained and have been transported to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed, according to JSO, as detectives canvass the area for video and evidence.

It appears to be an isolated incident with no additional danger to the community, JSO said. The investigation is ongoing.
