Woman arrested again for animal cruelty after 56 dogs were rescued from home in Jacksonville

Yhristina Hawkins had 74 dogs seized from "deplorable conditions" at a home in December, JSO said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Animal Control & Protective Services needs assistance after seizing 56 dogs from a Westside home Thursday that resulted in the arrest woman, who was previously arrested for dogs found in "deplorable conditions."

Yhristina Hawkins, 59, and Paul Peek, 33, were taken into custody Thursday and charged with animal cruelty. Hawkins was also charged with resisting an officer without violence. Hawkins uses several aliases, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officers had to breach the Northside home at 11415 Dobson Drive with a sledge hammer to arrest them, an arrest report said.

Inside 6215 Pickettville Road, about 8.5 miles away, officers found 56 dogs, a report said. That home's registered owner is Encompass Industries Inc., according to the Property Appraiser's Office.

"Our shelter was already over capacity, and today our team stepped up to intake 56 dogs from one case. This means we NEED our community’s help. If you’ve been wanting to adopt, now is the time! We also need short- and long-term fosters to be able to house these new dogs ..." Animal Control & Protective Services said in a Facebook post.

In December, Animal Care and Protective Service officers said they found 74 dogs in dirty cages with no food or water and one dead dog, on a property on Pickettville Road. Officers found a dead dog and dogs with injuries showing signs they were trained for dog fighting. The dogs had no shelter from the cold and no food or water in the home, police said
