AT&T is promising its customers who may be affected by Hurricane Dorian that it will waive overage charges during the first week of September.

On Thursday, the phone company announced that it is planning to waive overage charges on mobile services, giving unlimited talk, text and data for AT&T wireless and AT&T prepaid customers in affected areas in Florida from Sept. 2 to Sept. 8.

"We know how crucial communications are during this time, and we want to help lessen the burden on our customers so they can take care of what matters most -- helping their families and friends," Kelly Layne Starling, the lead public relations manager said in a news release.

As of the 5 p.m. update Thursday, much of Florida remains within the "cone of uncertainty." Hurricane Dorian is projected to increase in strength and become a Category 4 hurricane before it makes landfall.
