Duval County Public Schools Custodian Union calling for higher pay

Tuesday the union asked the school board to speak with its custodian contractor about raising wages from $12 to $15 an hour.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Duval County Public School Custodian Union wants higher pay.

“Starting wage is $12 an hour and we only ask they bring it up to $15 for the percurrent moment here," union president, Elton Brown, said.

Tuesday night, Brown, spoke to the school board on behalf of other custodians in the district.

He asked board members to speak with its custodian contractor, HES Facilities Management to pay its custodians more.

“We have families here and we’re doing our best to provide a good service here for the district," Brown said.

The custodian union said several school members reached out after the school board meeting to discuss the wages.

Brown said the union has a petition and is working to a goal of 1,600 signatures.
