ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- A young man lost his life this weekend after being hit by a vehicle while walking or standing on Blanding Boulevard, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Zachary Hall, 28, of Orange Park died early Saturday morning from injuries he sustained after being struck by a vehicle.

Hall was allegedly walking or standing in the outside, northbound lane of State Road 21, south of Blairmore Boulevard, at approximately 4:15 a.m. when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle, according to Florida Highway Patrol

Troopers said the driver, 58-year-old Jeffrey Virbickis of Middleburg, was in the outside lane of State Road 21, heading north, when the left, front side of his Ford Escape struck Hall.

Hall was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

Virbickis did not sustain any injuries from the traffic accident and alcohol does not seem to have been a factor, according to the FHP incident report.

Northbound traffic on Blanding Blvd. was shut down for hours. Drivers were rerouted onto Kingsley Avenue while an investigation of the crash took place.

All northbound lanes have since been reopened.
