17-year-old armed with rifle, wearing a black mask, near schools arrested in Springfield

Seventeen-year-old Tray'tavious Martin has been arrested for being in Springfield-area with a rifle and a mask which caused two schools to go on lockdown.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Seventeen-year-old Tray'tavious Martin has been arrested for being in Springfield-area with a rifle and a mask which caused two schools to go on lockdown.

Someone in the neighborhood who was doing yard work at the time saw Martin walking around with the rifle and mask and called police.

JSO notified the school and had it placed Kirby Smith Middle School and Andrew Robinson Elementary School on lockdown.

The original notes given from dispatch to officers on scene were: Black male, black ski mask, with AK47 on Drysdale, last seen walking towards kids football field wearing all black, with a black backpack, on foot walking fast. Last seen headed towards Kirby-Smith Middle School.

Police were able to determine that the suspect may have entered into a residence on Drysdale Street.

The suspect surrendered to police. A resident of the house gave consent to search the home to police. The suspect led officers into a bedroom where the firearm was concealed under a couch. The firearm had a magazine that contained 23 live rounds of ammunition that was inserted in the rifle. Another occupant of the house was arrested on an outstanding robbery warrant.

The gun was not listed as stolen.

At this time no motive is known as to why he was near the schools with a firearm.

Martin has been charged with discharging, exhibiting or possessing a weapon or firearm on school property and possession of a firearm by a minor under 18 years of age.
