More than 35,000 pounds of turkey kielbasa sausage recalled

The affected products may be contaminated with rubber, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

DENMARK, Wisconsin — A Wisconsin-based meat manufacturer is recalling more than 35,000 pounds of turkey kielbasa sausage after two consumer complaints of "black rubber material" found in the products.

"Although there have been no reported injuries involved with this product and there is a small chance of any adverse health hazard, protecting the consumer is our priority and why we’re issuing the recall," Johnsonville said in a prepared statement Thursday.

The voluntary recall affects 12-oz. vacuum-packed packages of "Johnsonville POLISH KIELBASA TURKEY" sausage with best-by dates of May 17 and May 18, 2024.

Johnsonville said the product was shipped to retail distribution centers in 11 states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Washington, California, Oregon, Idaho, North Carolina, Iowa, Kansas and Minnesota.

Consumers with the affected products are urged not to consume them and should throw them away or return it to the original place of purchase.
