Family of 23-year-old man killed in Jacksonville holds vigil, asks for community's help solving murder

Dozens of people lit candles Friday night in honor of Gabriel Devoe, who was shot in an Arlington parking lot in November 2022.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The family of a 23-year-old man murdered in Jacksonville want his killer brought to justice.

Gabriel Devoe was found dead after being shot in an Arlington parking lot in November 2022.

His mother Rose Devoe shared powerful stories at a candlelight vigil in his honor Friday night. The crowd laughed and cried while remembering Gabriel.

The family’s promise is to never give up on finding the person who took his life, and they hope the community will join them in this mission.

Everyone in the room chanted: "There is justice for Gabriel John Devoe. There is justice for Gabriel John Devoe."

"We are not going anywhere until justice is served for Gabriel," Rose said. "We're going to go to any means necessary. We're going to march. We're going to fight, but more than anything, we're praying without ceasing because we know that the God of justice shall prevail."

Gabriel was in his final semester of college when he was killed in a parking lot almost one year and four months ago.

There's a $15,000 reward out for information that helps solve his murder.

AJ Jordan from M.A.D. D.A.D.S. urging community members to continue telling Gabriel’s story far and wide.

"Keep Gabriel's name out there,” Jordan said. “Hit the stores. Hit the corners. Wherever you go, say his name because you never know who knows something."

Church family surrounded Gabriel’s parents and siblings in their grief, and his father John Devoe sent a strong message.

“If it is the last thing I do on this earth,” John said, “I'm going to find the person that murdered my son."
