JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 4 p.m. update: Traffic began to trickle through around 4 p.m. as a lane was reopened.
A crash with injuries is heavily impacting traffic on I-295 on Jacksonville's Westside.
According to FDOT, multiple vehicles are involved including a semi truck that fell off the overpass. It occurred near Pickettville Road and is categorized as "major," the agency said.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched at 10:53 a.m. arriving about 20 minutes later, according to FHP. The agency said the crash is involving a fatality.
According to an FHP report, a 61-year-old Willis, Texas man was killed and he traveled off the roadway down the embankment and collided with the railroad tracks. he was taken to a local hospital.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is at the scene and reported a person trapped.
