Business gives veterans jobs while giving back to community

JDog Junk Removal and Hauling is veteran owned and operated and employs veterans and their families.

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- While camouflage is made to blend in, the design on one local business’ trucks are made to stand out.

JDog Junk Removal is American-owned and veteran operated and employs veterans and their families.

“Yes, we’ve gotten a lot of business from our trucks being wrapped and driving around,” said Mike Getka, a regional manager with JDog.

Getka served in the Navy for 21 years.

“To give somebody direction, to help them get their foot in the door and get started for a huge opportunity, it could be a new career,” he said. “Anytime I can help a veteran or a family member of a veteran it’s hugely important for me.”

JDog currently has one location based in Jacksonville Beach and another franchise location in St. Augustine, covering much of the First Coast.

The company does more than just take your junk. They’re committed to keeping 60-80 percent of items collected out of landfills.

“We try to get involved with as many charities as we can so we can donate books, furniture,” Getka said. “Try to have partnerships with as many different recycling companies as we can as well.”

Getka said skills veterans develop in the military, like comradery and teamwork, translate to working at JDog. He added that the company provides opportunities for upward mobility and growth.

But more than that, Getka said it’s like a family.

“You get together and you get to talk about the stories of what you did in the military,” he said. “And again that comradery and the teamwork.”
