Nassau Co. deputies ask FBI to assist in Joleen Cummings investigation

Suspect Kimberly Kessler was living a double life under a fake identity in Florida and going by the name Jennifer Sybert. She was arrested in connection to the missing case of Joleen Cummings.

The Nassau County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) has requested the assistance from the FBI regarding the investigation of Kimberly Kessler, the 50-year-old woman who is the suspect in the case of the missing Yulee mother.

Kessler was the last known person to see Joleen Cummings, 34, alive.

Cummings was reported missing on Mother's Day. On Tuesday, NCSO announced during a press conference that they don't believe Cummings is alive.

NCSO also announced that they arrested Kessler in the case. They revealed that surveillance video showed her dumping Cummings' Ford Expedition at a nearby Home Depot the same day Cummings went missing.

They also revealed that Kessler was living a double life under a fake identity in Florida and going by the name Jennifer Sybert.

"On the phone, she just said 'I'm Jennifer' and she scheduled my appointment," said Amanda Boatright, a resident who went into Tangles Hair Salon & Supply for a haircut where both Kessler and Cummings worked. She scheduled her appointment 10 days before Cummings went missing.

"She was nice, she just came off weird," said Dawn Tibbets, Boatright's sister.

They said Kessler talked to them about her cosmetology license, which she said she got when she was 18 and had a hard time renewing. First Coast News found her license under her fake name.

NCSO also reported that Kessler had a fake social security number. They said Kessler is actually from Pennsylvania. There were reports that she disappeared in 2004 and was reported missing by her mother in 2012.

"She said that her mom wasn't really a mom to her," Boatright said.

Police in Pennsylvania said Kessler's mother told them that she was trying to escape a romantic relationship and that she also tried to change her name several times.

First Coast News confirmed that at one time, Kessler also worked at Woody's BBQ in Fernandina Beach, Great Clips in Yulee and St. Johns County.

While NCSO asked for the FBI's assistance, NCSO is still the lead in the investigation.
