JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Job seekers rushed the doors as soon as they opened at the Business and Career Expo downtown. Howard Knight was one of the first in. He hasn't worked in two months and hoped he might win the job sweepstakes.
Out of the 150 businesses at the Expo, about 25 actually had job openings.
The Suddath moving company was one of those hiring for several positions and was flooded with applicants.
"They want immediate employment instead of a long hiring process, which is good for us because right now is our busy season in summer," says Mark Cheeser with Suddath.
Expo speakers also offered tips for using social networking websites to find a job.
"Think of Twitter as whispering in a large crowd; most people won't hear you but if the right people do you can still get your message across," says Steve Waterhouse, president of Predictive Results.
Howard Knight has tried those sites, and his search for something in architecture continues. But by now he's also willing to look at other fields.
"If there was an offer I could just not refuse, in a heartbeat, I would reinvent myself," says Knight.
