JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Clara White Mission is celebrating 105 years of service to the community. Saturday the organization that helps so many homeless and hungry people, held their 14th annual feed the city luncheon. The event kicks off Clara White's Thanksgiving food drive. President and CEO JuCoby Pittman-Peele says the luncheon is usually later in November, but this year they felt it should take place earlier because so many people are in need of food. About 1,500 people were served with donations and support from volunteers and local businesses. To ensure families are served this Thanksgiving, the Clara White Mission is soliciting the help of businesses, civic organizations, schools and faith-based organizations to participate by sponsoring a food drive or pledging a contribution for Thanksgiving. People can drop-off for food donations/contributions through November 24th at the Clara White Mission, located in historic LaVilla on the corner of Broad & Ashley Street. The Mission is a one-stop community development center that restores lives through job training, housing initiatives, literacy programs, daily meals and cultural awareness. Last year, the Mission served over 185,000 meals to the homeless and at-risk individuals.
