Arlington Apartment Fire Victims Survey Damage

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Family and friends came to the rescue of victims who are relocating following a massive fire that did $2 million in damage at the Chelsea Courtyards apartments on Tuesday.

The fire claimed one life; three people including a firefighter suffered minor injuries.

The name of the woman killed in the blaze has not yet been released. The state Fire Marshal said some sort of electrical malfunction caused the fire that started in the woman's apartment located in the 2200 block of University North. 

Jennifer Dixon, 50, had plenty family on hand helping her to remove her belongings from a second-floor apartment that suffered smoke damage.

"I am more than blessed. I am more than blessed," said Dixon who is moving her belongs to another apartment within the complex.

Annie Horne doesn't believe she will be as lucky as Dixon as she pointed to her apartment that was in the path of the flames.

"They say everything is wet -- couch and the bedroom set. I have a new sofa," said Horne, who hoped to get into her apartment Wednesday to see the damage.

Altogether 19 families were displaced by the fire.

The Red Cross assisted families with temporary housing and also gave them debit cards to buy essential supplies.
