The latest on wildfires in Florida and south Georgia.

Bradford County

  • Fires burn more than 18,000 acres
  • More than 200 firefighters are working hard to get the blaze under control. Several state crews have arrived to assist.
  • The shelter at the Bradford County Middle School has been closed. A new one has opened at the Madison Street Baptist Church in Starke.
  • Interlachen shelter will be closed.
  • More than 250 homes have been evacuated. No homes lost at this time.
  • All Bradford County public schools are open today.
  • Bus routes may be altered because State Road 100 and county Road 18 remain closed this morning.
  • Any student unable to attend school as a result of the fires, will receive and excused absence.
  • Hope Christian Academy is still without power and will be closed today.

    Baker County

  • A fire that has jumped the Florida border has caused the evacuation of 300 homes in Taylor
  • Moccasin Creek Circle area under evacuation
  • The two fires have charred more than 130,000 acres and continued to rage south on the Georgia-Florida border.
  • No structural damage and injuries reported.
  • State Road 2, which crosses the Florida-Georgia border, is closed in the Baxter area.
  • More than 42,000 acres burned in Okefenokee Swamp
  • Shelter is available at The First Baptist Church of Glen St. Mary, 9846 George Taber Boulevard, (904) 259-0523. Space is limited.

    Clay County

  • Clay County has extended its outdoor burning ban until May 15 unless weather conditions change.
  • Clay County Fire Rescue urges residents to call 911 to report any wildfire in the local area.

    Flagler County

  • Despite extreme fire conditions, crews have been able to keep a wildfire within the fire lines in Flagler County. 6800 acres have burned near the Flagler, Volusia and Lake county lines.

    Duval County

  • The Duval County Emergency Operations center is up and running at level 1 status because of the extreme fire danger. Level 1 is a monitoring stage. The state EOC is operating at level 3, full activation.

  • The City of Jacksonville's Environmental Resource Management Department issued an air quality warning today, saying current particulate matter concentrations are reaching unhealthy levels in some areas of town. As a result, individuals should reduce their exposure to outdoor conditions and limit strenuous activity when outdoors.
  • Fire and Rescue is helping out in Baker and Bradford counties.
  • No mandatory evacuations in Duval County

    South Georgia

  • Firefighters from across the country are battling a 100,000 acre wildfire that stretches from Ware to Charlton counties.
  • In Davis County, several families were ordered to leave their homes.
  • Mandatory evacuation for Moniac, Ga.

  • A Mandatory Evacuation has been issued in southern Charlton County, to include Ga. Hwy 185 from Ga. Hwy 94 to Mile Marker 4, including N J Raulerson Road, Jack Chesser Road, Canaday Loop, Chism Trail Road, Dave Brown Road, Reynolds Bridge Road, Joaquin Road, Old Moniac Road to Fairy Road, Barber Branch Road, Farm Road, Pine Acres Road, and Ruby Burnsed Road. Under a Mandatory Evacuation, this means homes maybe in the line of the fire activity in as little as 12 hours. Evacuated Homeowner Tip - Bring Insurance Information Homeowners who evacuate should take their home insurance information with them and contact their insurance agent. Keep any receipts of expenses incurred because you may be able to get reimbursed by your insurance company.
