JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Dwayne Gratz is no longer a Jacksonville Jaguar.
The 2013 third round pick is the latest member of the current regime's initial draft class to receive his walking papers. Gratz played in the Jaguars' first three games this season but was listed as inactive during the team's Week 4 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Gratz was let go to make room for fellow former starting cornerback Aaron Colvin, who served a four-game suspension for violating the league's performance enhancing drug policy. Colvin started 15 games for the Jaguars last season and led the league in cornerback sacks with four.
Gratz had been serving as Colvin's replacement during the suspension and mostly worked in nickel coverage. After putting together a solid preseason, Gratz struggled when forced to play nickel in regular season games.
First-year cornerback Josh Johnson seemingly outplayed Gratz on special teams and defense. Johnson's performance during the first quarter of the season put him ahead of Gratz in the pecking order.
With Davon House, Jalen Ramsey, Prince Amukamara, Johnson and Colvin on the active roster, there was little room for playing time for Gratz. He will now be subject to waivers.
Left guard Luke Joeckel (injured reserve), safety Johnathan Cyprien and running back Denard Robinson are the only remaining members of the 2013 draft class on the Jaguars roster. Long snapper Carson Tinker and defensive tackle Abry Jones joined the team as undrafted free agents that same year.
The Jaguars received an exemption for the bye week to make the roster move for Colvin.
