PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Sunshine at the beach turned into stormy-looking skies on Sunday with more of an ominous threat: a waterspout.
A waterspout was spotted off of Mickler's Landing Sunday morning, as shown in the video shared by First Coast News viewer Kristen Dorris.
This feature is considered a waterspout because it is located over and interacting with the water. If it were to move on land, which this did not, it would be considered a tornado.
Our weather team, along with the National Weather Service, reported there would be heavy showers in the Northeast Florida area, some of which may include rotation offshore.
For instance, around 1 p.m., a batch of showers was moving toward St. Augustine, with the potential for waterspouts and funnel clouds along and east of US-1, according to NWS.
Mickler's Landing is in Ponte Vedra Beach, just east of the A1A.
