List of shelters open for Hurricane Irma


The City of Jacksonville has released a list of shelters, including special needs shelters, ahead of Hurricane Irma. They are scheduled to open Friday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m.

JTA evacuation buses are available to transport customers to designated shelters. Customers requiring special needs transportation to a shelter should call (904) 630-2489.


  • Landmark Middle School: 101 Kernan Blvd. N (pets allowed)
  • Twin Lakes Elementary: 8000 Point Meadows Dr.
  • Chimney Lakes Elementary: 9353 Staples Mill Dr. (pets allowed)
  • Mandarin Middle School: 5100 Hood Rd. (pets allowed)
  • Oceanway Elementary: 1255 Gillespie Ave.
  • Abess Park Elementary: 12731 Abess Blvd.
  • Legends Center: 5130 Soutel Dr. (pets allowed) (AT CAPACITY)
  • Andrew Robinson: 101 W. 12th St.
  • Arlington Middle School: 8141 Lone Star Rd.
  • City Rescue Mission's New Life Inn: 1234 W. State St. (opens at 12 p.m. Friday)


  • Legends Center: 5130 Soutel Dr. (pets allowed) (AT CAPACITY)
  • Atlantic Coast High School: 9735 R.G. Skinner Parkway (pets friendly)
  • Oceanway Middle: 143 Oceanway Ave.
  • Enterprise Elementary: 8085 Old Middleburg Rd.
  • Fletcher High School: 700 Seagate Avenue, Neptune Beach
  • Mayport Middle School: 2600 Mayport Rd., Atlantic Beach
  • Jacksonville Beach Elementary: 315 South Tenth Street, Jacksonville Beach


Shelters are scheduled to open in Nassau County starting Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m:

  • Hilliard Middle School: 1 Flashes Ave., Hilliard
  • Hilliard Elementary School: 27568 Ohio St., Hilliard
  • Bryceville Elementary School, 6504 Church Ave., Bryceville
  • Callahan Intermediate School, 34586 Alligator Creek Hunting Club
  • Callahan Middle School, 450121 Old Dixie Highway


Shelters are scheduled to open in Putnam County on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.:

  • Interlachen Elementary School: 251 S. State Rd. 315, Interlachen
  • Ochwilla Elementary School: 299 N. State Rd. 21, Hawthorne
  • Q.I. Roberts Middle School: 901 State Rd. 100, Florahome
  • Browning-Peace Elementary School: 100 Bear Blvd., San Mateo
  • Middleton-Burney Elementary School: 1020 Huntington Rd., Crescent City
  • Kelley Smith Elementary School: 141 Kelley Smith School Rd. (special needs)
  • Putnam County Business Complex: 7220 PRC Way, Palatka (pet friendly)


Shelters are scheduled to open at 6 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.:

  • Pacetti Bay Middle School: 245 Meadowlark Lane (special needs)
  • Timberlin Creek Elementary School: 555 Pine Tree Lane (pet friendly)
  • Pedro Menendez High School: 600 SR 206 West (AT CAPACITY)
  • Bartram Trail High School: 7399 Longleaf Pine Parkway
  • South Woods Elementary School 4750 SR-206 West (pet friendly)
  • Mill Creek Elemetary School 3750 International Golf Parkway


Shelters are scheduled to open at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept 8:

  • A special needs shelter at the Alachua County Senior Center (5701 N.W. 34th Blvd., Gainesville)
  • A general population shelter located at The Easton Newberry Sports Complex (24880 N.W. 16th Ave., Newberry).


Shelters will open in Columbia County at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.

  • Westside Elementary School: 1956 Co Rd. 252B, Lake City (special needs only)
  • Ft. White High School: 17828 FL-47, Fort White
  • Winfield Community Center: 1324 NW Winfield St., Lake City (pet friendly) (AT CAPACITY)
  • Richardson Sixth Grade Academy: 646 SE Pennsylvania St., Lake City
  • Pinemount Elementary School: 324 SW Gabriel Pl., Lake City
  • Richardson Community Center: 255 NE Coach Anders Ln, Lake City

    The County has activated its call center for citizens that have questions pertaining to this event, that number is 904-284-7703. The County’s website includes information on special needs and offers information about your zone and the County’s alerting system.

    Mandatory evacuation for all of Charlton County has been issued beginning Saturday, September 9 at 6 a.m.
