LIST: First Coast school closures ahead of Hurricane Dorian

Several schools have announced that they will close in order to ensure the safety of their students ahead of the potentially dangerous Hurricane Dorian.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida — *** All schools have resumed normal operations along the First Coast. Check with your district to inquire about any canceled extracurricular activities or sporting events.

In anticipation of Hurricane Dorian’s expected impact on the First Coast, several schools announced they will close in order to ensure the safety of their students.

School Cancellations:

Baker County

  • Baker County Schools: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4. Expect classes to resume Thursday, Sept. 5.

Bradford County

  • Bradford County Schools: All schools in Bradford County are closed on Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4.
  • Hope Christian Academy in Starke: Tuesday and Wednesday

Brunswick County 

  • Brunswick Closed now until Friday, Sept. 6.

Camden County

  • Camden County Schools: All schools will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 through and Thursday, Sept. 5. 

Clay County

  • Clay County Schools: All Clay County Schools will be closed on Tuesday, through Thursday. Schools resume Friday in Clay County.
  • St. Johns County Day School in Orange Park: Classes resume on Friday, Sept. 6. All sports practices and extracurricular activities remain as scheduled.

Columbia County

  • Columbia County Schools:All schools in Columbia County will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 3
    • If your child misses school on Friday due to hurricane prep or evacuation, send in a note and the absence will be excused. 
  • Saint Leo University-Lake City: Saint Leo University's Lake City Education Center will close on Sunday, Sept. 1. Classes will also be canceled from Sept. 1 to Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Duval County

  • Beaches Episcopal School: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4.
  • The Bolles School: All campuses will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 5.
  • Duval County Public Schools: All Duval County public schools will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3, Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 5. 
  • Edward Waters College: Classes canceled Friday, Aug. 30 at noon to Tuesday, Sept. 3.
  • Florida Coastal School of Law: All campuses will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4.
  • Florida State College at Jacksonville:  All FSCJ campuses and center will be closed starting Saturday and lasting through Thursday, Sept. 5. All faculty and administrative offices will also be closed.
  • Jacksonville Country Day School: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept 4.
  • Jacksonville University: Closed through Thursday, Sept. 5
  • KIPP Jacksonville Schools: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 3, Wednesday, Sept. 4.
  • Parsons Christian Academy: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 3, Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 5.
  • Potter's House Christian Academy: Closed Wednesday, Sept. 4.
  • Providence School and Preschool: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 3, Wednesday, Sept. 4. and Thursday, Sept. 5
  • Riverside Presbyterian Day School: School will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4. 
  • Saint Leo University (Mayport Education Office): Closed and classes canceled until further notice. 
  • Trinity Christian Academy: School will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4
  • University of North Florida: Classes and all student activities canceled beginning Saturday, Aug. 31 and lasting through Wednesday, Sept. 4. Faculty and Administrative Offices closed also.

Flagler County

  • Flagler County Schools: All schools in Flagler County will be canceled on until Thursday, Sept. 5

Glynn County

  • Coastal Pines Golden Isles Campus: Will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4.
  • College of Coastal Georgia: All classes will be canceled in Brunswick and Camden on Tuesday, Sept. 3
  • Glynn County Schools: Closed now until Friday, Sept. 6.

Nassau County

  • Nassau County School District: Schools will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3, Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 5.

Putnam County

  • Putnam County School District: The Putnam County School District will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4.

St. Johns County

  • St. Johns County Schools: All St. Johns County schools will be closed on Tuesday, Sept 3 through Thursday. 
  • Flagler College: Classes will be canceled Monday, Sept. 2 through Wednesday, Sept. 4.
  • St. Johns River State College: Closed on Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Friday, Sept. 6. All classes and activities are canceled for ALL campus locations (Orange Park, Palatka and St. Augustine). Classes are expected to resume Monday, Sept. 9.

Union County

  • Union County Schools: Classes are canceled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Ware County

  • Ware County Schools: Closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4. Back to school on Friday.

Schools outside the First Coast

  • Embry- Riddle: The Daytona Beach, Worldwide Headquarters, Space Coast and Orlando Campuses Will Close at 5 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
  • Florida A&M University (FAMU) Jacksonville: Satellite site will be closed through Wednesday and resume normal business operations on Thursday, September 5.  
  • University of Central Florida: UCF will close at 5 p.m. Friday through at least Tuesday, Sept. 3.
  • University of Florida: UF campus in Gainesville closed and classes canceled on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
