A Palatka woman is dead after the Florida Highway Patrol said she was struck by a vehicle while chasing after her dog on US-17 Monday evening.

FHP said the 42-year-old woman was struck by a Jeep when she ran into the roadway north of Gordon Wilkinson Road. The Jeep was traveling south in the left lane on US-17 and stopped after the crash. 

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
