A passenger died early Saturday morning in Columbia County after the driver of a vehicle struck several objects, including a culvert, and landed on its roof, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Andrew Powell III, 29, was riding in a 2008 Ford F-350 traveling north on US Highway 441 when FHP says the vehicle's driver left the roadway on the east shoulder of the highway just before 2 a.m.
After leaving the roadway, the driver struck the culvert as well as several objects, causing the vehicle to overturn and rest on its roof. Powell was pronounced dead at the scene.
FHP says it is unknown why the driver left the roadway.
