Two people are dead and another two are seriously injured following a traffic collision Saturday morning in the Moncrief area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred at about 11 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of New Kings and Moncrief Roads.
Elaine B. Prestigiacomo, 51, and Zelda T. Eckstein, 74, both of Hilliard, were identified as the two victims who died Saturday morning.
The driver of the white sedan made a left-hand turn onto Moncrief Road while traveling north on New Kings Road and collided with a gold-colored SUV traveling south on New Kings Road. The SUV struck the white sedan, then a traffic pole before crashing into a traffic control box before coming to rest on its side, JSO Sgt. Nick Butler said.
Two occupants in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third occupant was transported with serious injuries to UF Health. The white sedan driver was also transported with serious injuries to the hospital.
Traffic lights were not working at the intersection following the crash due to the SUV hitting the traffic control box, Butler said.
It’s currently unknown which driver had right of way.
All those inside the vehicles were adults. It’s unknown if seat belts were worn in the crash.
