FHP: Woman attempted to go around railroad crossing gates in moments before deadly crash with train

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 4:44 p.m. on US-1 at Andrews Road.

HILLIARD, Fla. — A 38-year-old Hilliard woman died after her vehicle was hit by an oncoming train in Nassau County Friday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 4:44 p.m. on US-1 at Andrews Road.

FHP said the woman was traveling westbound on Andrews Road. According to the FHP, she tied to cross a railroad crossing while the arms were down as a southbound CSX train was approaching. 

FHP said the train hit the woman's sedan, where it left the tracks and hit an electrical box. The woman died as a result from her injuries.

Andrews Road was closed for several hours while authorities worked to investigate the crash. It has since reopened.
