JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A motorcyclist is suffering from life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Lane Avenue at I-10, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. at South Lane Avenue and the I-10 westbound on-ramp.

Police said a motorcycle was travelling south on Lane Avenue and had the green light. A Honda Pilot was travelling north on Lane Avenue and also had a green light, but turned left onto the I-10 on-ramp.

The motorcycle ended up crashing into the front end of the Honda Pilot. The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and sustained life-threatening head injuries, JSO said.

It's still early in the investigation but right now police say it appears the driver of the Honda failed to yield the right-of-way.

If it is determined that the driver of the Honda is at fault, that person will be cited or charged depending on what the evidence shows, police said.

Traffic is being routed onto I-10 westbound or to the U-turn northbound on Lane Avenue. Officers said the scene should be clear soon.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the area.

JSO said they have seen an increase in accidents involving motorcycles in 2021 as compared to last year and this is the second accident in four days involving a motorcycle.
